Chic Accessories Now in PDF

Tuesday, August 19, 2014

We are happy to announce the release of not one, but two of the most popular micro mini patterns in PDF pattern form. What was previously a quick sew, perfectly chic accessory is made even quicker by instant download! As you will soon see, both are perfect for back to school.

First up, we have the Jewelry Roll pattern. Transporting your jewelry just got a whole lot easier and cuter. With two necklace and ring holders, six separate pockets of varying sizes and a zipper pouch, you can store quite a few of your special accessories. It all rolls up into a compact little package that will easily fit into your purse or carry-on luggage.

What makes it even better? Our MODKID Jewelry Roll is not just for jewelry...

FOR THE STUDENT
The inside pockets are the perfect length and width for coloring pencils, markers and crayons, while the zippered pouch will easily hold erasers, glue sticks, post-it notes or other small school supplies. Then it rolls up to fit perfectly inside their backpack or binder.

FOR THE TEACHER
Teachers will find plenty of storage room for pens, Expo markers, rulers, staplers, calculators, etc. Feel free to modify the length of the inner pockets to suit your needs.

FOR THE CRAFTER
Whether you sew, knit, scrapbook or like to dabble in all crafty hobbies, keep your tools of the trade safely tucked away in this handy travel case.

You can find the Jewelry Roll pattern for sale in the Modkid Etsy Shop or on Craftsy.

Next up is the Modkid Lunch Bag. Lunchtime doesn't have to be boring with a brown paper bag! Be fashionable with this super chic insulated lunch bag. It has plenty of room for your food and drink, plus an extra little interior pocket to hold an ice pack. A padded handle and velcro closure make it easy to transport.

You can find the Lunch Bag pattern for sale in the Modkid Etsy Shop and on Craftsy.

One last note about these micro-mini patterns. They don't include pattern pieces, just simple rectangles, so they sew up very quickly. If you are looking for a great teacher gift or wanting to install a zipper for the first time, these patterns are a great place to start!

Past, on-going and future endeavors...

Courtney has been conducting a fun series she calls MODKID Styled, where she takes a MODKID sewing pattern (either PDF or paper) and pairs it up with fabric combos and trendy accessories to create a whole "ensemble". She even gives you easy links on where to find all the goodies so you don't have to do any extra work. If you would like her to "style" a favorite pattern of yours, just let her know in the comments.

Sew-alongs: We just completed our first ever sew-along, the Sun & Surf Tote, in conjunction with our first ever paper-to-pdf release. It was a blast and we really enjoyed seeing all the projects completed by our SAL participants. We plan to do more SALs in the near future, so if you have any special requests, just et us know in the comments!

MODKID FB Group: don't you hate it when everyone else is in the know and you have to find out second-hand? Join our FB Group to always be the first to get MODKID news. We will announce new pattern and fabric releases there first. We will also post FREE tutorials and poll our members for ideas and suggestions. As if that wasn't awesome enough, our MODKID group has become a sewing forum too where members post questions or concerns and get an answer within seconds from either a MODKID team member or another group member. Come join us here.

If you've been missing new fabric designs from us, I am delighted to say that there are TONS of new fabrics, in quilting cottons, knits and home dec, coming up in the near future. Stay tuned... as soon as I am able to reveal, I will give you the details! (pssst.... a little birdie told me that a sneak peek was posted on the FB Group, so head on over there to check it out.)

That's it for now! Hope you like our new look. Please give us your feedback. We would love to know what you think and if there is anything else you'd like to see form us either here or on Facebook. This is a work in progress...

Sun & Surf Tote Sew-Along // Day Five

SST-sew-along-graphic

It’s finally time to complete our tote!! Today, we’ll sew and attach the strap, insert the grommet, and add the button. We are in the home stretch!

IMG_3078_flickrh.jpg

Fold and press both short ends of the strap to the wrong side 1/4”.

IMG_3080_flickrh.jpg

Fold the strap in half lengthwise, wrong sides together, and press a crease. Open up the strap, then fold each raw edge in toward the center crease. Press well. If you used fusible fleece in the beginning, and it is already attached to your strap, fold the strap in half enclosing the raw edges and proceed to the next step. If you are using a loose piece of fleece, unfold your strap and insert the fleece inside in the center of the strap. Fold the strap in half enclosing the raw edges.

IMG_3082_flickrh.jpg

Topstitch around all four sides of the strap.

Install one large grommet on each side panel of the tote following the manufacturer’s instructions. Make sure the top edge of the grommet is at least 1/2” down from the top edge of the tote.

IMG_3087_flickrv.jpg

Insert the end of each strap inside a grommet opening from the outside of the bag. Fold up the strap to the inside and stitch a rectangle shape with an X in the middle to reinforce the strap.

Stitch your large decorative button approximately 1” below the front V of the tote and close your tote with the button loop.

Time to hit the pool or the beach or fill with diapers or wrap as a gift!! Whatever its intended use, your tote is complete. Give yourself a pat on the back! Just be sure to add your photos to our Flickr group or Facebook group by Monday, August 4th to be entered to win the grand prize. You can also share photos on Facebook and Instagram tagged #sunandsurfsewalong. We’ll announce the winner next week!
