(because I'm too tired to come up with a more clever title)
Jon's been traveling quite a bit lately for business. He spent all last week in Florida and is back there this week... well at least someone in this family gets to enjoy decent weather! So, as you can imagine it's been crazier than usual around here. You never know what you have until it's gone, right? I've been wearing many hats to say the least, from work-related tasks that he had already taken over and I had almost forgotten how to do, to family stuff. Case in point, Jon has been handling breakfast around here for as long as I can remember. Now my mornings go a little like this:
Girls: "That's not how daddy does it!"
Me: "Yeah? Well, daddy's not here, so DEAL!" (haha, not really, but sometimes that's what I wish I could say!) ;)
But life must go on, as they say, and we are having one of our busiest times yet. Jon reminded me this morning on the phone that I hadn't blogged in over 2 weeks. There's so much to talk about I feel like I need to break this up into topics, so here ya go:
FABRIC
I received strike-offs for my new line yesterday. This is the one that debuts in May at the Spring Quilt Market. Everything looked great! Either I'm getting better or our mill is getting better (or both) but I am just thrilled with how smoothly this process is going now, not like all the hiccups I encountered the first couple times. And, is it me or are things moving a lot faster these days? I remember waiting impatiently for what seemed like forever to get these proofs and now they're here before I know it. hmmmm...
Anyway, I'm not quite ready to show the collection yet because it seems like Flora & Fauna just hit stores the other day and I really want to let it shine in the spotlight a little bit longer before I divert everyone's attention to the new stuff. But let me tell ya, though, I am really mixing it up this time... totally different style! Love it!
OKAY, OKAY, you twisted my arm... but just a little sneak (the type that makes you wanna pull your hair out cause you can almost see something)
This collection comes with a surprise print too, not shown above. This one is so special to me that it deserves it's own posting. You'll see what I mean. ;)
Oh, and I think it's finally safe to announce that this Quilt Market I will be showing my fabric designs in 3 different substrates:
quilting cottons
100% cotton interlock (knits!)
cotton laminates (oilcloth!)
100% cotton interlock (knits!)
cotton laminates (oilcloth!)
I'm having such a great time coming up with projects for all 3 fabric types and even dreaming up ideas to mix & match between them. :)
PATTERNS
We will have 4 new patterns debuting this Spring as well. Just like with the fabric, I don't want to reveal anything yet because the last set just launched barely a month ago, so let's not steal the spotlight. But I can tell you this much: there will be something for kids, something for women and something for dolls. Is that enough of a teaser for ya? ;)
Oh, and speaking of patterns, our beloved KYOKO is finally SOLD OUT! Yep, we underestimated the demand for it once the Mini-Kyoko pattern came out and didn't re-print with the last run. We are not scheduled to print again until early May so it'll be back-ordered for a few months. Sorry! But if you are looking for Kyoko, I invite you to check our extensive list of retailers at the bottom of this page. Retailers: if you've run out of Kyoko and need to re-order, don't fret. We have several US and International distributors that still have Kyoko in stock... email me for a list.
European retailers, we have a new distributor in the Netherlands that services all of Europe, so if you want to avoid those high overseas shipping charges, you may want to check them out. They are fully stocked at the moment... yes, even Kyoko! :) Email me at info@modkidboutique.com for their contact info.
MY MOM
Hey, look mom, you have your own topic! ;)
My mom, a.k.a. Marieliz Creations on Etsy, has finally joined Valerie in the ranks of "licensed sewing pattern designer" for MODKID, LLC. She has already submitted her first pattern design to us and it has been put into production. Can't wait for you all to see. Between the 3 of us we should be able to crank out a wide array of pattern styles and diversify a bit more than we did last year. And, just like with the patterns Valerie designed for us, all patterns will come with the signature MODKID look & feel that you are so accustomed to.
Speaking of my mom, she has also been busy filling up her Etsy store with all kinds of goodies. Check out these apron/oven mitt/towel sets she has up right now. How fun!!
TALKING AND WRITING
Seems like that's all I do these days... write and talk, talk and write (oh and I eat too!)
May will be such an exciting month for us! Not only do we have Quilt Market to look forward to, but also I will be featured in two great industry publications. Where Women Create and American Quilt Retailer will both have articles about yours truly in their May, 2010 issues so go check them out.
Also, a reminder for all you local folks that I will be speaking next week in Peoria. Michael Miller has graciously donated some amazing gift packages, so some of you will walk away with a great freebie! Here's the info:

Oh, one more thing... Jon and I will be celebrating 10 years of wedded bliss this weekend so we are going away to a spa retreat where I plan to do as little techie stuff as I physically can (you know it's an addiction, right?) Jon asked where I wanted to go for our anniversary and I said I wasn't interested in sightseeing, shopping (gasp!) or anything complicated. I just wanted to enjoy his company and relax, relax, relax. So, if you think I've fallen off the social networking world in the next few days, I haven't... I'm just bathing in mud with two cucumbers on my eyelids and a Mojito in my hand!
******
I love, love, love all the fabric with turquoise (there is probably a hipper name for this color but sadly, I am not hip). I love your bright colors and think it is really an accomplishment to design something that someone can look at and say "oh-that's a Mod Kid design". So congratulations! I never win these things but did wan to tell you that. Have fun on your trip..I'm jealous! Cheery wave from Bev topinsales@gmail.com (just being optimistic)
ReplyDeletei am so excited for you! you have some amazing things going on...it's wonderful to watch. :)
ReplyDeletenow, about Flora & Fauna...the MUSTARD colorway totally rocks my little world! i can imagine so, so, so, so many things to do with it!!
(but then, that's all your fabrics, you diva you)
I'm going to have to say my favorites are the Ta Dots. I love each one! I can't wait to see your new line!
ReplyDeleteThat is quite a blog posting! Congrats on your upcoming anniversary and new fabric and patterns!

ReplyDeleteOh to choose just one, so hard they are all awesome in this line. But I really love the teals and the teal birds.
ReplyDeleteFirst off, congratulations on all your fabric success and your upcoming anniversary! I don't have a favorite colorway because I really love them all, but my favorite print is definitely the bees! followed very closely by the humming birds.
ReplyDeleteAqua and RED!! Of course! :)
ReplyDeleteExcited to see what is coming out new this spring! I must say that I just love the turquoise.... also just love every one of the dandelion prints.... simple and clean.
ReplyDeleteGood to see you back. =) And, I love surprise giveaways! The raspberry colorway is my very fave, but I love them all.

ReplyDeletecarrie
Congratulations on all of your success! It has been fun to follow your journey and I wish I could attend your event next month! I would say my favorite colorway of Flora & Fauna is TURQUOISE. The colors and prints are so yummy. The turquoise and red hummingbirds are my fav...

Ok, ok. enough. Favorite colorway for F&F is the turquoise.
Have fun!!
The raspberry is my favorite! Can't wait to see more of your new fabrics, too!!! :o)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on 10 years!
ReplyDeleteChoosing a colorway is hard, they are all beautiful but I love the stone colorway.
I am SOOOO excited for the oilcloth/laminated cotton! If I had girls I would be for the knit too... maybe pjs for me! My fav colorway of flora & fauna is stone! THanks!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the sneak peek of your new line.... Loving the brights and bolds!
ReplyDeleteCount me in on the Flora and Fauna giveaway... For me it's a toss-up between the wustard and the stone colorways...I love them both!
Congrats on the anniversary Patty!!! The aqua/black/grey is my fave. And you saw my response to your strikeoffs on Twitter lol. I was the one screaming and drooling on my keyboard!
ReplyDeleteOhhhHhh my heart just beat a little faster! Cuuuute patterns, & the fabric -- can't wait :) And congrats on your mom joining the company, and 10th anniversary! Have a blissful, relaxing weekend...is it bad if I say that, as beautiful as your fabric peek is, my equally favorite thing in this post is the wedding photo of you & Jon? I'm a sucker for that stuff :P
ReplyDeleteThe turquoise combo is my favorite! But...the raspberry runs a very close second. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteWow! Ten years, that's amazing. Isn't it crazy how fast the time goes (I think it speeds up as soon as you have kids). Congrats! I love all the colorways because I'm a fabric-a-holic (I'm still in denial, so no 12 steps for me.) There are times when I'm at the grocery store and I think ... I could be spending this $$ on fabric (but I would never do that to my kids or hubby). I love the aqua -- seem to be a bit obsessed with that color lately. Thanks for sharing your life! (And, I'm in the middle of two weeks without my husband as well ... these weeks ALWAYS remind me how tough it would be if I were a single parent, and how happy I am that I'm not!)
ReplyDeleteNo matter what you endeavor to do, there's always this incredible balance that comes through! I appreciate that so much! Your fabrics are popping off the screen - niiiiice! Keep enjoying the ride!
ReplyDeleteMy favourite colourway is definitely the stone! Congratulations on 10 years. I can't wait to see your new line :)
ReplyDeleteYay!I love all the dandelions and all the daisies. Love love love. Thanks for the chance!
ReplyDeleteHow to choose?! If you twist my arm, I would say the turquoise but I really love them all!!! Can't wait for the new line.
ReplyDeleteI love the turquoise!

ReplyDeletesarah8914 at gmail dot com
My favourite is the Hummingbirds in Mustard...so beautiful...but it was very difficult to choose as I love them all!
ReplyDeleteHave a relaxing holiday away!
Happy Anniversary! I love all of those fabrics, but I think the Young Raspberry Combo took my eye the most.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your Updates!
I'm really not trying to butter you up-although I would if I thought it would work - but your Flora & Fauna is my all-time favorite(of all-not just yours!)
ReplyDeleteFirst I bought Stone, then I went for turquoise. Now I just bought the lime/raspberry, which started out as my favorite so I don't know what took me so long! Yes-I am missing the mustard & I love it, too!
Anyway, can't wait to see the new line. I see some wonderful colors there-especially the one that almost looks like candy cane stripes. Please don't keep us waiting too long!
And your patterns are wonderful-they clothe my granddaughters! Again I will add-please make some for the little bit older little girls-my granddaughters are outgrowing a size 7!
Congratulations on your anniversary, we forgot our 10th (seriously) so have a relaxing weekend! Thanks for the huge update looking forward to the Spring stuff. The Stone and the hummingbirds are my faves from the most recent...but all the colors are so bright and its like you can't have one without the other....
ReplyDeleteOh My World... your new collections looks absolutely yummy! I can't wait to see them all... especially the surprise one! I've been such a big fan of Flora & Fauna, that I'm really excited to have a chance to win some of it here. Thank you for being such an inspiration!

congratulations on all of it...really..the anniversary and another super de duper collection of fabrics! Those are so pretty. I really love the stone colorway in Flora and Fauna. The little bees are so clever...
ReplyDeletePatty, you really are an amazing artist. How in the world have you done so much...so fast....with a family...and a real life. You totally blow me away with your talent. I LOVE everything you do! What an inspiration.
ReplyDeleteps. you don't look old enough to have been married 10 years. Did you get married when you were 15??
KNITS!!! Hooray! I'm so excited your new line will have knits! I can't wait to churn out something for my daughter. As for Flora & Fauna, I love the Stone. : )
ReplyDeleteJust had to pop in here and tell you guys how emotional you all are making me with your sweet comments.
ReplyDeleteSo glad I appear "balanced" (even though most times I feel I'm not).
So glad I have a recognizable style, because I strive so hard to accomplish that.
But most of all, I just had to laugh out loud when I read LOLA's comment above... haha.... 15? Just so you know, I was nearing 30 when Jon & I got married, so you do the math. ;) So happy to hear I appear much younger than my real age! :)
Thank you all again for visiting! You are my motivation.
patty
I like the Raspberry colors as a group, but my favorite fabric is the honeycombs with the black background.
ReplyDeleteSo hard to choose but I think the raspberry combo is my favorite! So happy and cheerful!
ReplyDeleteWow that's a lot going on. Happy anniversary!
ReplyDeleteMy favorites are the aqua prints. Love that color!
Oh, I still love the stone/pink color the best! And my favorite print is the double border daisy!
ReplyDeleteOOhh you so tease us with these little snippets!! But how totally exciting for you! Will be waiting with eager anticipation of the "special one" !! :D
ReplyDeleteSo hard to choose a favorite colorway, as they are all fantastic in their own right! But if forced to chooose, it would have to be the raspberry and lime - which just wins out(by a nose or a thread)over the mustard, that juuuusttt barely wins out over the teal and red! hahaha!
LOVING the turq colorway - adore it with that red...I'm sooo into that right now.
ReplyDeleteLove all your stuff actually...so it was a hard pick but will be an easy win...
Enjoy your getaway...let me know if you need anyone to help with the luggage ;) - had to ask...suffering from cabin fever here
catherine s.

I love the stone colorway, but all of them are pretty darn fabulous. I just need to have some more extra money so that I can get myself some!
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary! We;ll reach 10 this December, too. I love the raspberry, and adore the turquoise dots, but I think stone is my favourite colourway. I've designed my daughter's first 'big bed' quilt (and a matching teddy quilt) using stone with a bit of raspberry. The deisgn was originally intended for my niece, but I can't part with it!
ReplyDeleteOMG your have purple in your new range! my daughter is going to flip!
ReplyDeleteAs for F&F I loooooove whole Stone colour way but I have a deep love for your limey green too :D
I love the entire collection, but my favorite is the Aqua colorway. I can't wait to see your new collection, I'm patiently waiting to make my daughter a new quilt for her upcoming "big girl bed".Have fun on your anniversary trip!

Pick just one favorite. I don't know if I can. I think it would be a toss up for me between the raspberry and lime. Both are so great. Oh and then there is the mustard. Humm I think any of them would be great.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Patty! 10 years! I remember celebrating that with my dh. lol I wish you 10 more!

My asbolute favorite colorway of the Flora and Fauna is the Stone Combo, I've loving the grays! Now if you would have paired up the turquoise with orange, that would have been the bomb!!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on all fronts Patty! Look forward to new fabric and patterns, they are always wonderful. Would have to say my favorite colorway is the stone & second best, raspberry. Although I love them all! Have a great trip!
ReplyDeleteUuuuuh ... didn't tell you my favorite colorway, thought I might not be lucky (as always ;) )

Simone
I seriously don't know how anyone can choose just ONE favorite colorway! I love raspberry, and already have a few, and i love combining raspberry with stone, but I have yet to see turquoise or mustard in real life...without actually touching them, how can I choose?!!!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your anniversary and all the other exciting things!
ReplyDeleteI'm leaning toward the Raspberry for my favorite!
My favourite is the hummingbirds in lime. Hummingbirds in turquoise would be my next favourite. The dandelions are lovely in both raspberry and turquoise. The border prints are also lovely.... *sigh* I love it all...

Congratulations on ten years of mariage(you both look so cute on your picture)! Enjoy your weekend, if anyone deserves it, it is you!
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, you are right, flora and fauna just barely got out, I even don't have it yet (but then again, it always takes me some months to decide what I truly want to buy), but your new collection looks so delicious and bright and it has a lot of tuquoise and purple in it, I want to buy it right now!
As for the giveaway: I love turquoise, I even want to repaint our apartement in that color. We are on red and white right now and adding tuquoise will be quite a challenge :)
Thank you for a chance to this giveaway!
Gosh, it's so hard to picka favorite! There are so many good ones. :) My favorite prints are dandelions, ta dots and blossoms, and my favorite colorways are the turquoise and stone. So how's that for narrowing it down?!
ReplyDeleteHave a great time on your trip!
Oooh....there are *knits* coming in that pretty stuff up there? Awesome!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite colorway - definitely the turquoise, but I'm torn on my favorite design - either the dandelions in any color or the double border daisies, I love them both!

i love mustard!! particularly, the hummingbirds.
ReplyDeleteI think my favorite colorway is the stone line... I love the daisy dot stone fabric. So vibrant!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on 10 years!! My hubby and I have that milestone coming in April. :)
Love the post!! And it was a great read, especially since I'm stuck home on another snow day in PA! Now that I see a pic of your mom I can see where the red hair is coming from! I especially love the sneak peak of Playdate - is that what you're calling it? Love the idea! And I can't wait for the new patterns, especially your mom's purse!!!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite colorway in F&F? So hard to choose 'cause I love them all! But if I had to choose one then it would have to be Turquoise. But Stone is my second - I don't recall too many other fabric lines out there with that lovely charcoal color. And I love the hummingbirds.
The mustard colorway makes my heart sing!
ReplyDeleteAnd happy anniversary!
The Stone is my personal favourite, but I just got the Sewing Clothes Kids Love book, and I think the turquoise colourway would be lovely in some of those European patterns.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your wedding anniversary and all the new fabrics coming up...especially the KNIT...we sooooooooooo need such pretty knit fabrics.
ReplyDeleteAs for my favorite colorway...hmm to tough to decide but I will have to say it's TURQUOISE, I love the combo of turquoise and red as well as the pretty dots. The stone colorway is gorgeous too.
Wow, I can't decide, I love it all. Have a great time on you anniversary getaway...
ReplyDeleteHappy Anniversary! I hope you have a lovely time at the spa with your honey. I STILL have folks asking me about your Kyoko design! In fact I am going to make one for one of my kids fundraisers per request. I will have to tell you how it goes.
ReplyDeleteI will have to say I really like the aqua and red colorway. But when it came out I really liked the mustard and black. Could it be a seasonal thing? LOL!
Patty, first off, Happy 10th Anniversary! May you & Jon share MANY, MANY more years of wedded bliss.
ReplyDeleteSecondly, the sneak peek of the new line made me SWOON. That bright purple? I'm dying!
And thirdly, my favorite F&F colorway, though hard to choose, has to be Turquoise, quickly followed by Raspberry. I remember a dress that one of your sample sewers made combining the two & it was SOOOOO pretty. Fingers crossed...

Lovely post. Can't wait for the new line. My favourite colorway in Flora and Fauna is Aqua. Very nice!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the big anniversary!!! I can't believe you are making us choose a favourite colorway in Flora and Fauna - they are all just too lovel.. but since I have to choose I think I really like the Stone collection...or the raspberry... its a toss up really.
ReplyDeleteYou've been sooo busy. Congrats on the 10 years - that is an achievement. We took 3 children + 1 8 week old to Disneyland Paris for our 10th - You definitely have the better plan:)
ReplyDeleteI love all your colours, and adore the Blossoms print.
Can't wait to see the new fabric.
Yay for strike-offs! And mojitos! I think I love turquoise the most, but really, they're all great.
ReplyDeleteThe black colorway is my fav. We just bought an old house, and my bathroom is yellow and black. The first time I walked through the house, I was planning how to demo that room first! Then we found out that the tile (it's ALL tile) is cemented in. I found some cute black and yellow prints to jazz it up, and now I love it!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful fabric. :)
Love the stone colorway and excited that your next line will be printed on knit.
ReplyDeletewow a giveaway! i really like all of the colorways, but raspberry is my favorite and in that, i love the hummingbirds. have a wonderful weekend away (i'm not jealous, i'm not jealous ;))
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on 10 years. I really like the mustard colorway.
ReplyDeleteI love the Black and Grey colorway. Now that my big girl is 8, she's turned her nose up at pink, so I'm always looking for something "more sophisticated" for her tastes!

It is SO hard to choose a favorite anything in F&F because I love each design & color for different reasons. I just bought the entire turquoise colorway and I LOVE IT! I would really love to have the Raspberry colorway to make everything for my daughters's room!
Keep up the great work Patty! I was going to be in IL. I would love to see you in person!
CONGRATS on 10 years too by the way! That's a great accomplishment also.

ReplyDeleteMy DH is also frequently gone - although I miss him when he is away, it gives me the opportunity to spend less time cleaning and more time sewing! The new line looks GORGEOUS although I'm still waiting for some F&F that I ordered recently. I think that the stone is my favorite colorway, but as that is what I just ordered, I'd love to get my hands on some raspberry (to pop with the stone you understand). Can't wait to see the new patterns too. Congrats on your anniversary, we're coming up on 12 years in a couple of months.

ReplyDeleteMy favorite probably is the raspberry color way, and I love the hummingbird and dandelion patterns.

The colorway of Flora and Fauan that I like the most is the turquoise. With the heat and humidity here is Georgia, the coolness of turquoise is the best. Your designs are the greatest.
