Lecture and Book Signing at The Nosh

This weekend I'm headed to one of my favorite places... St. Louis! I met Shannon (owner of a super fabulous fabric shop in Missouri called Fabric Nosherie) almost a year ago at the Fall Quilt Market and we hit it off immediately. I said, any friend of Laura's is a friend of mine! So, of course, I was thrilled and honored when she asked if I would be part of her One Year Anniversary Celebration!

Shannon and her team at The Nosh are celebrating all week so, if you live in Missouri here is the full schedule of events:

Sept. 19 Wednesday - 50% off Miss Henrietta pin cushion pattern

Sept. 20 Thursday - For every $30 you spend, you will be entered into a drawing to win 1 of 3 adorable bags that we've had at the shop!

Sept. 21 Friday - 10% off everything

Workshop/Book Signing with Patty Young 11:00 a.m. (first 25 to RSVP will receive 15% off Patty Young books and patterns). When you spend $35 or more, you will get the chance to Pop a balloon (when we say chance what we mean is that you’ll throw the dart until you pop a balloon – even if it takes all day) . Inside the balloon is a surprise. It could be 20% off you’re next purchase or it could be a special delivery from Amy Butler, Denyse Schmidt or Laura Gunn… which one will you get? So many prizes……can. not. wait.

So, there ya have it! Come out and see me!! I promise it'll be a great time.

Missouri via Instagram

This year, due to busy schedules and whatnot, we decided to take our Summer vacation at our neighboring state of Missouri. At first, it felt like we might be cheating ourselves (and the kids) out of a wonderful experience, but soon enough we discovered two things: 1. there is LOADS to see and do in Missouri, and 2. the kids really don't require much to have the time of their life. It helped that my sister and her family were also there for a conference, so we got to spend a lot of QT with their kids.

I did bring my big camera, but duh, I forgot the charger back at the office, so I relied on my trusty old iPhone and my new favorite app, Instagram, to document our travels.

The bulk of our vacation was spent like this...

...which was fine by me because my biggest wish was to have a stress-free trip. Mission accomplished! I caught up on all the family gossip while working on my tan and watching the kids splash around in the water.

But, like I said, Missouri has LOTS of to offer. In between walking trips to Cheesecake Factory (yes, we had one that close to us!) and occasional drives to Starbucks, we did manage to catch a few local attractions and do a little sightseeing.

We were lucky enough to be able to catch the Lantern Festival at the Missouri Botanical Gardens. Now, if you have been a long time reader of my blog, then you already know how much of a fan I am of MoBo... so much so that I based a whole fabric collection on it! But the Chinese Lantern Festival takes the gardens to a whole other level of awesomeness!

We got there at 7 p.m. (an hour before they light up the lanterns) and were greeted by this:

Inside the park, we new it was gonna be awesome when we saw this:

And this...

And then it got dark and they lit up the lanterns and ohhhhh myyyyy!

I did bring my big camera into the park and got a few dozen shots before the battery died, so if I get a chance I might do a whole post just on this show later on, but if you are in the St. Louis area this Summer, do check it out! It was AMAZING!!!

The following day, we headed about 60 miles south to the Meramec Caverns... another must see in my book!

Yes, this photo was taken with my phone, believe it or not! Looks like a postcard, no?

mo-15

It is that beautiful in there. I have tons more, but after a while they start looking quite repetitive, so I decided to keep it short & simple. ;)

We took a boat tour along the Meramec River and that was so much fun too.

mo-03

Sydney was representing that day. (yes, I did take a picture of my 7 year old's butt with Instagram!) haha

mo-01

The breeze was cool on the boat, even though the temps that day were in the high 90s!

The following day, we visited a local indie fabric shop, Fabric Nosherie (a.k.a. "The Nosh") and chatted it up with owner, Shannon. (below photo courtesy of Shannon)

This shop was seriously one of the coolest places I have stepped foot in. Just take a peek...

I found out while I was there that Laura Gunn was also in town and was scheduled to visit The Nosh that day. We seriously missed each other by about 2 hours... waaaaah! We are definitely planning a little something something for later on this year, though. Stay tuned!

And, of course, we couldn't leave St. Louis without spending a long and crazy afternoon at the City Museum. I've also blogged about this place before (oh my, the kids were so tiny the first time we went!)... total visual overload here!!!

After a long awaited trip to Ted Drewes, we headed back home ... full bellies, happy hearts and head full of great memories. This was one of our best vacations yet!

Where are you spending your Summer vaca??

All work and no play...

...makes Patty a dull girl. So whenever I have a little lull in my workflow I plan spontaneous trips just to break up the monotony. It just so happened that this past weekend was one of those "I actually have nothing to do" kind of weekends and it also so happened that it was the 4th of July weekend and Jon had Friday off. So we booked an impromptu trip to St. Louis... one of my most favorite US cities! I know I've blabbed here & there about how much I love St. Louis. Not only does the city have incredible history & character but it also has some of the best attractions for kids... the City Museum, the St. Louis Zoo, the MO Botanical Gardens, to mention just a few! And every year, on the 4th of July they have Fair St. Louis... another fabulous attraction.

On Saturday morning we watched the Independence Day Parade just outside our hotel...

Yes, we all got beads and didn't even have to flash anyone! ;)

Then we met up with my sweet niece, Asja, and the girls had an absolute blast!!! After a round of hugs & kisses,

And, well, I'm not quite sure what this pose was all about...

Then in the late afternoon, we headed out to the City Museum. What an incredibly fun place that is! I strongly recommend it if you are ever in the area. We went a couple of years ago and had such a blast that we decided it was time to go again...

On Sunday we spent the day at the Botanical Gardens... seriously one of my favorite places in the whole world. This place is like a dream... so lush and wonderful!

And the Chihulys... oh, the Chihulys!!!

I got a chance to play with my new camera and get up close & personal with some of their exotic flowers & plants...

Actually, the best pictures I got at the gardens were of the girls, but I can't show you too much right now because I'd be revealing my next sewing pattern collection (yes, I just can't stop working.... it's a sickness, I tell ya!) So here are just a few teenie-tiny sneak peeks:

The Arch
Part 4 (and final!) of our 3-Day Weekend in St. Louis

Our last stop on our way out of St. Louis was at the Arch, a.k.a. Gateway to the West. After having attended a graduation, then a wedding, then visited with new friends, we were more than ready to come home, relax and get our life back in track, but the family decided at the last minute that they wanted to go up the arch... so up we went.

It was a lot more fun that I anticipated. The kids had a blast and it afforded me some awesome photo ops... (click any of these pics to super-size them)

I am a sucker for modern architecture and this is the epitome of modern architecture... a sleek, shiny, steel structure that towers up above the city of St. Louis. The Arch is the tallest national monument in the United States at 630 feet!

And the best part is.... you can ride it!

Up at the top I couldn't resist taking some pics of the city. I love this one (east side) because it shows the shadow of the arch over the river...

This one (west side, showing the Cardinals baseball stadium) is cool too because it actually shows the curvature of the horizon...

I got vertigo while shooting this one... eeek!

After the arch, we goofed around for a bit...

What a fantastic way to end this fun-filled weekend!
