If you are local to the Central Illinois area and are into sewing, crafting or fabric in general, you need to stop by the Bloomington/Normal Jo-Ann Fabrics tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 28th from 1 - 3 p.m. I will be there to give a short lecture about my newest line, Rendezvous, plus a little background info on myself and how I got into the industry. There will be tons of giveaways too!

The first 17 people there will receive a FREE copy of Generation Q magazine featuring my home and studio. Plus, the folks at Jo-Ann corporate have sent over some gift baskets and a few other goodies... not to be missed!

I will also be doing a book signing for Sewing MODKID Style. If you have a copy already, go ahead and bring it and I'd be happy to autograph it for you. Otherwise, there will be plenty of copies available for sale tomorrow, so grab one for you and one for your sewing BFF... they make great gifts! :)

This past weekend I had a lecture and book signing at The Fabric Nosherie in St. Louis in celebration of their one year anniversary. Since it is a relatively short drive from our house, I decided to bring the whole Young clan and extend my visit into a family weekend getaway.

Well, little did I know that the girls would actually want to be part of my presentation! This is definitely a first. Here is Shannon, owner of The Nosh, introducing me...



And introducing the "real designers". I am rolling my eyes because Sydney just hopped in front of me and did one of those "TA-DA! Here I am!" poses with arms outstretched and all. That girl!



I want to thank all of the sweet ladies and kids who attended my lecture. We all had a lot of fun and I had a wonderful time meeting each and every one of you.

I met Shannon (owner of a super fabulous fabric shop in Missouri called Fabric Nosherie) almost a year ago at the Fall Quilt Market and we hit it off immediately. WDT, Part 1: Atlanta
Intown Quilters

I'm finally back from my whirlwind Tour of the South (part of my World Domination Tour). There was lots of driving, eating, drinking, talking, world-cup-game-watching, and even though I didn't do any shopping (shocking, I know) I did come home with lots of nifty goodies thanks to the generosity of some pretty awesome ladies we met.

On the evening of Wednesday, July 7th, Jon and I walked in the door of one of the most awesome quilt shops I've ever laid eyes on: Intown Quilters, in Decatur, GA. I was immediately drawn to this section of the store right near the front, not sure why....



I loved how Sarah & team had the store laid out, so organized and pretty. There was a rainbow of fabric bolts and colorful baskets filled with fat quarter bundles that you could just grab & go...



Everywhere you looked there were sewn samples and neat store displays like this one...



This store is a crafter's paradise, with an immense selection of fabric, patterns and books to choose from. They even had trims & notions galore, including the full collection of Andalucia jacquard ribbons and Michael Miller printed bias tapes...



You step downstairs and it's a whole other world with a huge room dedicated to classes. This is where we spent most of our evening. The sweet and talented (and soon to be published author) Mary Abreu, of Flourishes fame, introduced me. It cracks me up how much shorter I am than her even though I'm wearing like 3" espadrilles and she's wearing flats!



I talked and talked and talked some more to a room filled to the brim with sweet Southern women. I'm not sure what I'm doing in this next photo... I'm either "raising the roof" or explaining just how big something was. Hey, I'm Hispanic... I talk with my hands!



We brought a full trunk show of MODKID samples for show & tell, and sweet Mary was the perfect Vana White.



I spliced two audience photos to try to show the whole room... not my best Photoshop work but you get the idea.



After the presentation, video and giveaways, it was time for photos...



And of course we had to take a group shot before leaving... here are Intown Quilters' employees and friends in front of the Wall o' Patty Young.

World Domination Tour
Spreading laughter and MODKID style one fabric store at a time

(I know, I know, just roll with it... this is probably the closest I'll ever get to feeling like a rockstar on tour.)

Our girls left this morning for a 2-week vacation in FL with the grandparents. So, you'd think now that the kids are gone it would all be fun & games around here... but noooo. It just wouldn't be me if I planned for rest and relaxation. Ever. Let's just see... on Thursday afternoon, our Realtor is coming over to take a look at the house and take some photos for the listing. This means that in less than 48 hrs. we have to get this house in tip-top shape... steam clean the carpets, polish the wood floors, touch up the paint. And I should probably put away the piles of laundry and toys that seem to have a life of their own. Ideally I would've liked to plant a few flowers out back and spruce up the landscaping but who's got that kind of time? Kids or not.

Two days after the Realtor comes, we are headed to Chicago to spend 4th of July with Jon's family. Then 2 days after that, we're driving all the way down to Atlanta, GA for some fun, fun stuff which I'll get to in a second and 2 days after that, we'll be driving down to Orlando, where I'll be exhibiting at the Bernina University for 4 days, culminating in a Fashion Show on the 12th! Then we pick up the kiddos and drive all the way back to Central Illinois. Doesn't that sound relaxing?!?

So, what about this trip to Atlanta? Lemme tell ya... I am super excited to be going there because on Wednesday, July 7th, I'll be stopping by WHIPSTITCH in the early afternoon for a quick visit and then heading over to INTOWN QUILTERS that evening for a lecture where there will be goodie bags, door prizes and laughs galore! And since I hate to do a blog post without photos (and I'm missing my sweet girlies already!) here ya go:

Sophie, Grandma and Sydney at the airport fountain. This photo was taken literally 5 seconds after I yanked Sophie's bottom tooth right out of her mouth. It was dangling by a string and beginning to bleed to I pretended to be wiping off the blood with a tissue and just pulled it before she could say anything. She didn't even notice until I showed it to her.



Saying goodbye was hard. It was a tossup whether it was harder for us or them.



I could tell they had mixed feelings of excitement and apprehension.



But nevertheless, off they went...



So let's get this party started...

A brisk and lively tempo

That's what "Allegro" means... and that's my poor attempt at having an interesting blog post title. Oh well! I'm still buried in work here (in other words, there's a brisk and lively tempo in the studio) and in addition to that I'll be attending a couple of local events in the next few weeks which I'll detail at the bottom of this post in case you're in the area and want to stop by.

But while I'm here I wanted to wish one of our awesome retailers, Allegro Fabrics, a VERY HAPPY 2nd ANNIVERSARY. They have been a great supporter of me pretty much since I started and currently carry a wide selection of my fabric designs and sewing patterns. And I am honored and thrilled to have been chosen for their very first Designer Interview. Go check it out... they are having tons of sales this week!!!
