The loveliest time of the year
Well, maybe not weather-wise (especially if you live in the Midwest!). But, it is Valentine's Day in just 2 weeks, so I have been inspired to create some fun new shapes for my Silhouette Online store. All of these shapes are currently on sale for just 75-cents, so hurry, because after V-Day they will go back up to full price!
My girls will be giving these adorable bookmarks as gifts to their classmates... and yes, I will be making some blue ones for the boys. ;)
The file comes with 3 of each sentiment and 3 sets of background shapes on a 12" x 12" page, so you can cut it out of one color once then cut it again out of the second color and this will yield 12 total bookmarks, 6 of each sentiment. Layer and glue the bookmarks so that the heart cut out is perfectly aligned, add a pretty ribbon and voila... instant Valentine for your kids!

I think this sweet heart ornament would be perfect for a teacher gift. It's pretty easy and fast to make too, so your kids can help with them.
How about these adorable critters?!?! They are holding hearts so you can write your special message on them and give it to your favorite Valentine. How perfect are these for school V-Day party projects? Each file comes with a few shapes to cut and layer (no more than 5 shapes each) so it'll be easy for even the tiniest of fingers to handle.
I also got to play with some 3D shapes this week. I had never made paper flowers before, but the Cameo machine just makes it so darn easy
and fun to do! Just cut the layers out, curl the petals around your
finger or a pencil and adhere the layers to create these pretty blooms.
These are not considered "Valentine themed" so they are full price
in the store, but at 99-cents, they are still a steal!

DIY V-Day Fortunes
Valentines Day is such a sweet holiday and my girls get so excited about passing out their valentines at their class parties. Since I'm not a huge fan of those store-bought, generic Valentines with the licensed characters, I always try to come up with a cute idea that we can make at home together with not a lot of time or money involved.
Last year I shared with you my Valentine Favor Box template, which was a huge success among my kids' friends and teachers, but this year I wanted to do something a bit different since they are not allowed to bring in chocolates due to peanut allergies. So, after a little trial and error, I came up with a new fun little project to do with them. This is certainly not a new idea... I've seen these "fortune cookies" done before several times, sometimes out of fabric, like in Kate's blog and sometimes out of felt, like in Martha's blog. In order to share a template online, I made mine out of card stock using some very sweet and girly designs from all my fabric collections, and they turned out oh so cute!!
The first thing you need to do is download my high-res template. Click on the image below, which will take you straight to Flickr. Download the largest file size (original file), which will be 8.5" x 11" at 300 d.p.i.
Print the file to your color printer at 100% on thick paper. I used 90lb. Index Card Stock from Office Max. NOTE: Your printer may tell you that the file is too big for your paper. That is OK! Do NOT "reduce" or "fit to page". There is a sizable white edge around the image, so your circles will not get cut off, I promise. I also printed the back side of my pages with a hot pink solid, so the insides of my fortunes would be colorful.
For the fortunes, I just typed a cute message and "signed" it from each of the girls so they would be personalized. The fortune papers are approximately 3" wide x 1/2" high. I was able to print both of my girls' entire class, including teachers, in 1 letter sized sheet! If you need a template to go by, you can use this one, then just change the names before you print!
After you have all your circles printed, proceed to cut them out around the edge. Your circles should be 4" wide.
Then, insert a fortune in the center of your circle and fold the circle in half, with the printed design on the outside.
Be careful not to crease that fold, just softly hold the edges of the circle together with your fingers.
Next, hold the edges of your circle using your thumb and middle finger, as shown below, so that you can push the center with your index finger.
Push the folded center on the circle in while bringing the two outer edges together until you form that fortune cookie shape.
Lastly, dab a dot of hot glue to hold those sides together. Otherwise, the paper will come undone right away and your fortune will fall out. Kate used twisty ties and Martha used floral wire, to help the fortune cookies hold their shape, but I didn't have either of those items on hand, so I found the hot glue works pretty well.
And VOILA! This is what they will look like when finished.
I have the first batch done now and I only spent a few minutes. Now, I'll wait for the girls to come home from school so they can help me assemble the rest. Sophie can cut, Sydney can fold and I'll be in charge of the glue gun. I predict we'll have them all done within a half an hour! :)

Favor Box Redux for the Season
A couple of years ago I designed some cute favor boxes for my sister's bridal shower, which I shared a tutorial for here on the blog. I thought it would be neat to do these in pink for Valentine's Day favors. I made a couple of prototypes and the girls went batty for them so I thought I'd share these with you guys since they're so easy to make.
I have a couple of templates you can use for this. Click HERE FOR THE PDF or HERE FOR THE JPG of the favor box. Both templates are the same, just different formats. Print them out at 100% on a letter-size sheet. Use card stock or other thick paper.
Now... as you can see, the templates come without personalization (no names -- unless your kids have the same names as mine, in which case email me and I can send you mine!) You can either have you child sign their name on the flat sheets with a permanent marker or if you're feeling extra crafty, open up the JPG in your preferred image editing software and type in your child's name. I used the font Century Gothic in white with a soft drop shadow, but any sans-serif font will do.
Assembly is easy as pie:

Finally, if you look over there >>> on my sidebar, I have a BLANK template, in case you want to use some sort of patterned paper or create your own design for the inside of the box. How fun would it be to print blank ones and have the kids decorate them?! :) There is also a teal-colored version on the side bar (the original one I used for the bridal shower) in case pink's not your favorite. ;)

- I cut my ribbons at 12" long and omitted the beads.
- I filled my favor boxes with shredded papers and a small assortment V-Day chocolates, which already come in pretty colors & shapes, instead of my custom candy wraps.

Be Mine
I had the absolute pleasure this past couple of weeks of getting to know -- and work with -- the lovely Alla, from My_Little_CityGirl. I have been a fan of her knitted items for who knows how long and I was just ecstatic when we decided to do this "sweet collaboration".
Alla was wonderful to work with and when her sweater arrived in the mail, I was just blown away. The workmanship is unsurpassed, the materials are gorgeous and the colors are so bright and cheery. Sydney fell in love with it as soon as she laid eyes on it too.
So, without much further ado, I present to you... BE MINE, a sweet collaboration.
Once I saw Alla's sweater I knew I had to make something equally as impressive and I hope I accomplished the task at hand. ;) I created a 4-piece set that will be custom-made for sweeties size 12M to 5T.
