Reese Sew-Along // Day 5
Friday, February 13, 2015
I hope you are loving your Reese so far!! After today's sewing your Reese will be complete!
Pin each skirt piece right sides together and sew along the sides. Finish with a serger or zig-zag. Baste gathering stitches along the top of the skirt pieces. I use a long stitch length with a 1/2" seam allowance. Pull the bobbin thread to gather the skirt to the same circumference as the bodice bottom edge.
With the skirt inside out and the bodice right sides out, place the bodice inside the skirt so they are right sides together. Align the side seams, and pin the bodice to the skirt. Adjust the gathers as needed. Be sure the tabs and ties are out of the way. Stitch around the top of the skirt and finish with a serger or zig-zag.
Turn the dress right side out and press the seam allowance up. Topstitch around the bodice and remove any visible gathering stitches.
Hem the bottom of the skirt by folding and pressing the skirt to the wrong side 1/4" and then again 1/2". Stitch along the inner fold.
Stitch two buttons were indicated on the front bodice.
Stitch one button where indicated at the back bodice.
Finished!! Sit back and admire your beautiful work! Be sure to add your photos of the completed dress to our Facebook Group before Monday, February 16th to be entered to win the Jo-Ann Gift Certificate. You can share photos on Facebook and Instagram tagged with #reesesewalong. We will announce the winner next week!

Reese Sew-Along // Day 4
Thursday, February 12, 2015
We only have a few steps today to wrap up the bodice.
Open up the bodice layers at the sides. Place the front and back lining pieces right sides together and the front and back bodice pieces right sides together. Make sure the underarm seam is aligned. Stitch the underarm seam. Press the seam open. Repeat for the other side.
Fold the bodice right side out and press around the arm opening. Topstitch around arm opening. Repeat for the other side.
Stitch a buttonhole at the marking on the back bodice.
Overlap the back bodice so that the bottom points match up with the notches. The side with the button hole should be on top. Baste in place.
Tomorrow we will complete the skirt portion of the dress!!

Reese Sew Along // Day 3
Wednesday, February 11, 2015
We will get the bodice started today and wrap it up tomorrow.
Place the back bodice pieces right sides together with the front bodice piece and stitch at the shoulder. Repeat for the back bodice lining and the front bodice lining. Press the seams open.
Pin a tab and tie combo right sides together to the front bodice between the notches.
The button tab should be right sides together with the front bodice and parallel to the bottom raw edge. Baste in place and repeat for the opposite side.
Pin the entire bodice right sides together with the bodice lining. You may find it helpful to draw in the seam allowance at the v-neck as shown.
Stitch along the angled back edges and around the v-neck. Also, stitch around the armholes. Leave the bottom and side seams unstitched.
Trim the seam allowances, clip the back corners and curves, and clip into the V at the front. Turn the bodice right sides out by pulling the back bodice through the shoulder.
Press well and topstitch along the back diagonal edges and around the neck. If sewing View B, topstitch over the collar edge. Do not topstitch around the arm opening yet.
That's it for today! We will complete the bodice tomorrow.

Reese Sew-Along // Day 2
Tuesday, February 10, 2015
Now that we have the prep work out of the way, it is time to sew!! Note: all seam allowances are 1/2" unless noted otherwise.
Place an interfaced button tab and a non-interfaced button tab right sides together. Sew along the long sides and the point leaving the short end open for turning. Trim your seam allowances especially at the point. Repeat for the other button tab pieces.
Turn the button tabs right side out and press well. Topstitch around the sewn edges. Create a 3/4" buttonhole where marked on each tab.
If sewing view B, place an interfaced collar piece right sides together with a non-interfaced collar piece. You may find it helpful to draw in your seam allowance line 1/2" from the edges of the collar as shown.
Stitch along the long curved edge, the short curved edge, and up to the corner. Trim the seam allowances especially at the points. Repeat for both sides of the collar.
Turn both collar pieces right side out and press well. Topstitch around the sewn edges.
Place two tie pieces right sides together. Sew along the two long edges and down the diagonal short edge. Keep the short, straight edge open for turning. Trim the seam allowances at the points. Repeat for the remaining two ties.
Turn the ties right side out and press well. Topstitch along the sewn edges.
Pin a button tab right sides together with a tie and baste along the short end. The horizontal length of the tie should be on the bottom and the diagonal along the top. Repeat for the other tab and tie making sure the ties will face reverse directions, but the horizontal length remains at the bottom.
For view B, place the collar pieces on the right side of the front bodice right sides up. Align the raw edges and baste in place. The short vertical sides should meet in the middle.
Tomorrow we will begin assembling the bodice.

Reese Dress Sew-Along // Day 1
Monday, February 09, 2015
It may still be chilly outside, but sewing for Spring will hopefully give us warm, happy thoughts! We're kicking off the sew-along with a little prepping and cutting.
First, head to your computer and print out your pattern. Here are a few tips I like to use for printing:
- Print the instruction pages on two sides (front and back). For the Reese pattern, these are pages 2-7. I like to save ink by not printing the pretty cover and inspiration pages (1, 8-9), but that’s up to you. You may even choose to not print the instruction at all and have your digital copy handy while you sew.
- Print the pattern pages (10-24) on a single side only. Make sure your scaling is set to “none”.
- Above all, utilize the test squares to make sure your pattern has printed at the full scale.
Next, cut all pattern pieces of your desired size. Be sure to include the gray/shaded areas in your cuts.
Overlap the shaded areas, as indicated on the pattern pieces, and tape each piece together to form the full pattern pieces.
Now you are ready to cut into your pretty fabric! You’ll need to refer to the cutting diagram in the pattern for the layout. Here is a list of the pattern pieces you will need:
- Pattern Piece A – Front Bodice: Cut 2 on fold from fabric #1.
- Pattern Piece B – Back Bodice: Cut 4 from fabric #1.
- Pattern Piece C – Collar (View B): Cut 4 from fabric #2. Cut 2 from interfacing.
- Pattern Piece D - Button Tabs: Cut 4 from fabric #2. Cut 2 from interfacing.
- Pattern Piece E - Skirt: Cut 2 on fold from fabric #1.
- Pattern Piece F - Tie: Cut 4 from fabric #2. (Cut two of these on the reverse direction)
Transfer button marks to the front bodice and buttonhole marks to the button tabs and back bodice. Notch the back bodice where indicated.
Following the manufacturer's instructions, fuse interfacing to the wrong side of two of the button tab pieces. For view B, fuse interfacing to the wrong side of two opposite collar pieces.
Tomorrow we sew!

New PDF pattern: the REESE PARTY DRESS
This is the time of the year when all mommies who sew are frantically trying to figure out what dress their girls will wear for Easter, the Daddy-Daughter Dance, the Spring Recital, or all these fun activities coming up. Well, I was right there with you! My girl, Sydney, attended her Daddy Daughter Dance last weekend and she was the Belle of the Ball in her new Reese Party Dress (there she is holding her daddy's hand).
Reese is an adorable, twirly dress, perfect for portraits, Easter lunch, Daddy-Daughter dances, weddings or any occassion where your girl wants to feel feminine and sweet. It features a unique cross-over back bodice design and front tabs that help give the dress a fitted look. A large bow in the back adds an extra touch of whimsy. Reese can be made with or without the front collar.
NOTE: This is a downloadable PDF pattern, NOT A PAPER PATTERN. After the instant download, your pattern can be opened with Adobe Reader and will print on standard letter-size paper (8.5" x 11"). There are 24 pages total in this document, including full-size, computer-drafted pattern pieces.
